What Causes Sleep Disorders In Adults?

Any physical or physiological disorder that affects sleeping patterns falls into the category of sleep disorders.  Every adult crave for a good eight hours of sleep every night, after finishing a day full of hard work and stress. But, unfortunate they are deprived of that good eight hours of sleep every night.  They have to adjust their sleeping hours every now and then, sometime to dismount the work pressure or most other times to meet with the other liability of the life.  We work entire day to achieve as much as we can in just 24 hours of a day and for that we usually compromise with our sleep.  When the sleep long been disrupted it takes a shape of a sleep disorder.

What Are Common Sleep Disorders Found In Adults?

Here is a list of the most common sleep disorders found in adults.

  • Sleep apnea
  • Narcolepsy
  • Poor sleep habits
  • Insomnia/ Transient Insomnia/ Acute Insomnia/ Chronic Insomnia
  • Restless legs syndrome
  • Sleep walking
  • Sleep disorders due to mental stress and anxiety
  • sleeping troubles due to medical conditions

You may make this list longer as there are more than 80 types of sleep disorders found in adults as well as in teenagers. Let’s not go deep into the classification and broadly divided it into three primary categories, lack of sleep, disturb sleep or excessive sleep. This classification is easier for a layman to understand and to identify his or her individual problem.  There are numerous medicines developed for the problem but one should first look at the personal sleep hygiene in dealing with sleep disorders. In addition, a few lifestyle changes and home remedies that are based on natural substances can also be beneficial in curing this ailment.

Home Remedies For Sleep Disorders Found In Adults

  • Lettuce juice is good for those who have problem falling into sleep. Substance found in Lettuce juice help induce healthy sleep. You may add a few drops of lemon juice in it to improve its taste.
  • For insomnia related sleep disorders (difficulty in initiating or maintaining sleep), take 25 to 30 ml of milk extracted from California poppy seeds and mix sugar to taste.  Take this mixture every night before going to bed.
  • Snoring mostly cause disturbed sleep and the best ailment for this is to sleep on your side. To fix the problem of sleeping on the back you may take help of a tennis ball and put it between the shoulders.  It makes too difficult to sleep on the back and encourage the side sleeping posture.
  • Herbal teas made with chamomile, passionflower, St John’s Wart, and mint have great sedative qualities and that help a lot in treating with various sleep disorders. They are now being prepared commercially and you can easily buy them from your nearby vender.
  • It is good habit to take a bath two hours before bedtime. It soothes mind and body and induce sleep fast.
  • Morning sunlight has amazing healing properties. Early morning spend at least an hour or two in the bring sunlight it help fix your circadian rhythm and thus sleep disorders.
