Sleep Management – How to overcome Workplace Stress

Stress at workplace is normal; however excessive stress can have a negative impact on your productivity as well as on your emotional and physical health. Studies have shown that a large percent of employees in the United States suffer from different types of sleep disorders; which is a result of excessive stress at workplace.

Your ability to deal with stress can have a positive impact on your job performance and your overall health. But not everyone can do it. It’s true that you are limited with your powers and can’t make any radical changes to the work environment, but that doesn’t mean at all that you’re powerless – everyone gets stuck in a difficult situation. Searching for ways to manage stress at workplace isn’t concerned with making lifestyle changes or joining a new career, but rather about concentrating on one important thing that’s in your complete control: you.

What Has Increased the Levels of Stress at Workplace?

The economy’s instability has created a fear in workers everywhere; it’s like an emotional see-saw. Budget cuts and Layoffs are two primary words used in the workplace which has uncertainty, increased fear and higher level of stress. Since workplace and job stress is usually at its peak in times of economic crisis, it’s imperative for you to learn how to cope up with the work pressures.

  • Making up your mind to take the responsibility to improve your emotional and physical well-being.
  • Eliminating stress at work by identifying those habits and negative attitudes that usually stress booster at your workplace.
  • Learning soft skills and practicing better communication to improve your relationship with the management and your colleagues.

Signs and Symptoms of Workplace Stress

Even stress has warning signs and if you cannot identify them or just ignore them unknowingly or purposely, it can lead to bigger problems. Few of the common signs and symptoms associated with workplace stress are:

  • Feeling depresses or short-tempered
  • Poor concentration or loss of interest in doing the work
  • Have difficulty in sleeping (Results in insomnia like sleep disorders)
  • Excessive tiredness

When you notice that your workplace stress is greatly interfering with your performance in the job, disturbing your personal life and have a great impact on your overall health & sleep, it’s time to take action. Start by improving your sleep and food habits. When you have sufficient sleep and eat foods that are rich in vitamin, minerals and antioxidants, you will feel stronger and can manage your workplace stress without becoming overwhelmed.

Remember that to eliminate workplace stress you don’t require a total lifestyle change. Even small changes can alleviate your energy levels, mood and make you feel like you’re back in the game.
