Required Sleep That Babies Should Get

There is specific amount of sleep that babies require at night as well as in the morning. At night, the babies under age of 2-12 months should take sleep for 9-12 hours daily which is the healthy amount of baby sleep. It is found that most of the 7-12 months’ babies sleep at 6-10 PM. So, try to encourage your baby sleep in these hours and let them sleep for 9-12 hours without interrupted. In addition to night sleep, baby for this age should take sleep in daytime as well. In day hours, they should sleep 2-4 hours in a day. As the baby grows, this sleeping habit gets decreased.

The baby sleep habits gets changed on biological basis at 2-12 months’ age. In initial months, the baby takes 50 percent quite sleep and fifty percent active sleep. Generally, babies wake up after all the active sleep phases. When baby gets three months old, this baby sleep amount gets reduced and in this time, most of the babies take quiet sleep in starting sleep cycles. The baby sleep cycle at this age relates to quiet and active altering sleep period for 20 to 50 minutes. After 6 months, the baby sleep pattern again gets changed and it becomes quite similar to grownups. At 8 months, mostly babies sleep by themselves and do not trouble parents to get to sleep.

The babies at 6 months develop at enough extent and they gain several abilities by which baby sleep gets affected. In these abilities, some babies learn to get themselves awake while playing or doing differing activities. They get busy in learning new skills. Such urge in babies do not let them sleep and they gain habit to wake more even in the nights. They become quite reluctant to sleep. In such new activities, crawling, object permanence and separation anxiety are few which lead babies to wake up at night.

Baby sleep often affects parents or other grownups that spend time with them. The parents of 6 months old babies have to be on night duty for their children to accommodate the baby demand at sleeping hours.
