No. This is not true, but snoring definitely occurs more often when someone sleeps on their back and often people are recommended to try a different position.
That said people have been known to snore:
- In any position
- Even when in sitting position
- When sleeping on specifically one side
Snoring exists due to a blockage or a reduction in the air pathway and can be nasal or from mouth/throat, so any position which worsens the blockage will cause more snoring and any position with alleviates the obstruction will reduce or eliminate the snoring.
