The Contour CPAP Pillow Review | Sleep Peacefully While Using CPAP

Posted on September 27, 2011

I will be reviewing the contour CPAP pillow in the following pages. As of today the best non-surgical treatment available for people who suffer from sleep apnea is CPAP or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. Sleep apnea occurs due to the obstruction of the nasal passageway; this prevents people from breathing properly and causes various other conditions such as:

  • Heart attack
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes

Disadvantage of Using CPAP

The major disadvantage which most people face while using a CPAP is getting used to it. It will take a long time to get used to sleeping with a mask on your face. A simple and effective method to get used to the CPAP machinery faster is to use a CPAP Pillow.

What is a CPAP Pillow?

A CPAP pillow is a scientifically designed pillow which will complement your CPAP machine’s equipment perfectly. This pillow will align your equipment such as the hose and mask; this will allow you to get a more peaceful night’s sleep. This pillow is also designed to keep your body in the sideways position; this will keep your airway open by itself and lower snoring etc.

Why Use the Contour CPAP Pillow?

The major difficulty which people who use CPAP face is discomfort. Surveys conducted have found that due to discomfort, people tend to use the CPAP only partial during the night instead of the whole night as prescribed. Additionally many people stop using their CPAP due to discomfort and increase their risks to dangerous conditions. This is where the Contour CPAP pillow helps. This pillow is designed to lower the pressure of the mask, lower leakage of pressurized air. It also prevents snoring and aligns your body in such a shape that your airway will remain open, thus lower amounts of pressurized air will be required. But most importantly it lowers the discomfort which people face by a large magnitude. For this reason alone you may wish to use this pillow.

Final Verdict on the Contour CPAP Pillow

Amazon Feedback

Positive Comments from Amazon:

  • “This pillow is an improvement over regular pillows for CPAP users…the cutouts allow the mask & hose to remain comfortably positioned making for a better nights sleep for side sleepers like me”
  • “I’ve slept with this pillow now for only 4 nights and I love it… It’s perfect if you’re a side or stomach sleeper and a regular pillow gets in the way of your mask… If your mask moves or leaks when it runs into your pillow, this may be the answer for you.”

Negative Comments from Amazon:

  • “Product is probably designed right, it just didn’t work for my husband.”
  • “I thought this pillow looked as if it would work for me… It appeared to have the space needed to keep the CPAP mask from bothering me so much… However, when I was sleeping, I was turning my face down into the place provided for the mask thereby creating leaks all around the mask and waking me up”

Thus I would recommend trying the pillow before using it since it may not fit you properly, but it does fit most of the people perfectly, so you should not have a problem with it. Additionally this pillow has been designed for people who sleep on their sides and stomach, so make sure to read the instructions of the Contour CPAP pillow on how to use it before purchasing. I hope this review of the Contour CPAP Pillow was helpful to you.
