Can Snoring Start When You Are Half Asleep?

Yes this can happen. When you are half asleep you can be said to be half way to fully relaxed. Snoring occurs when there is an obstruction or a blockage in either the nose or the mouth / throat.

Most people usually have “throat snoring” and therefore when you are half asleep or half relaxed the muscles in your throat can be relaxed enough not to keep the air passage as open as it should. Although, if snoring occurs in this case it would indicate that there is already a predisposition to a blockage, which means that you could be suffering from snoring as well as sleep apnea.

It could also be that you are quite overweight and by having a thicker neck you already pressure the air passage so any further action of relaxation (like being half asleep) would create snoring.

I suggest, if you suffer from snoring when half asleep that you investigate the causes of your snoring and seek out snore cures and hopefully you will not be suffering from other sleeping disorders.

  1. My hubby tends to snore when half asleep especially if he had something to drink like red wine, I guess it relaxes him or his muscles like you said
