Sleep Disorders in Women

Inadequate and unsatisfying sleep is the most common problem among most of the women. Almost 30% of women are more likely to report sleep related disorders than men. Almost 29% women report that they take medicines to improve their sleep. Women suffering from sleeping disorders always complain of lack of energy and exhaustion among other symptoms. Poor sleep adversely affects your health as well your life style. Sleepless nights lead to exhausted and troublesome days. At least 10 to 11 hours of sleep for teenagers and 7 to 9 hours of sleep for adults are necessary to maintain health and carry out daily chores.

Women suffer from pre-menstrual sleep disorder which incorporates unsatisfying and inadequate sleep. The associated tension and irritability among some women causes disruption in the sleep schedule. This can also cause depression and insomnia which directly affects the health. These women should be more vigilant about their health issues and take care of them. They should pay attention to their sleep needs, should follow a proper sleeping pattern and maintain a healthy diet.

Pregnancy Related Sleep Disorders

Pregnant women are at a higher risk of suffering from back pain and leg cramps which causes sleep problems. They are unable to sleep throughout the night because of the edgy feeling. Sleep disorders during pregnancy are also caused by frightening dreams, postpartum blues, depression and postnatal psychosis. As these women cannot take pills to regulate their sleep pattern, they must avoid stressful work and should take maximum rest.

Menopause Related Sleep Disorders

Menopause is associated with a number of problems and sleep dysfunction is one of them. Irregular sleep pattern is caused mainly by hormonal changes and hot flashes. Women in their menopause are advised to reduce the consumption of sugar, caffeine and alcohol in their daily routine. Doctors advise estrogen therapy which helps in controlling sleep disorders along with mood swings and anxiety.

Insomnia

Women who are patients of anxiety, depression, stress or other factors are more likely to report insomnia in comparison to men.

Sleep Apnea

A number of women also suffer from sleep apnea which is the blockage of breathing passage during sleep which also leads to heavy snoring.
