This hectic lifestyle has made many of us victim of various sleep disorders. A sound sleep is what we all crave for which seems almost impossible in this modern life. To fit in something in our tight schedule there is no better way than to cut off a few hours from our sleep. Lifestyle issues cause disruptions that take up a shape of one or the other sleep disorders at later stage. Lifestyle has a great impact on our sleep and ultimately on our well being. If you are not blessed with a sound sleep all your efforts maintaining good health are going to waste as body’s recovery system actively works when body takes complete rest in the form of a sound sleep.

Impact Of Food On Sleep

There are various easy methods that help you facilitate sleep. Food is one such thing.  The food we consume can affect the quality of your sleep. We do count calories, look at the quality of food, sometimes quantity also but we never put heed on food concerning its possible affects on our sleep. We eat anything and everything especially in dinner without caring its impact on our sleep. You might be paying a little attention on your food only if you are diagnosed with one among various sleep disorders and doctor have restricted you with some food to help you get to sleep fast.  Otherwise ‘anything and everything’ is what your motto is.

What Nutrients Are Good For Sleep Disorders Patients?

Are there any food items that induce sleep? Yes, there are foods that help you sleep well. People suffering from sleep disorders are suggested to have a meal that is rich in carbohydrates and low in protein. Omega 3 foods come second in the list. There is a positive relationship between omega 3 levels and serotonin levels which boosts with omega 3 foods. The most important thing is to detect the nutrients level in the food. Nutrients such as B complex, calcium and magnesium, zinc and iron are helpful with sleep. B complex promotes sleep whereas calcium and magnesium help to relax. Iron and zinc take part in the process of comical balance in the brain.

Food Items For People Suffering With Sleep Disorders

There is a small list of food items that may facilitate sleep

  • Fatty fish (mackerel, halibut, sardines, salmon, trout)
  • Montmorency cherry
  • Warm milk
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Ground flaxseed
  • Banana
  • Herbal tea (chamomile, melissa, orange blossom, passiflora, vervein, valerian tea)
  • Cottage cheese
  • Peanuts
  • Grapes

These are a few food items that you may add to your evening meal or bed time snakes. People suffering with sleep disorders must also take a good look at their diet to initiate sleep or stay asleep throughout the night uninterrupted other than the regular thing they do to promote peaceful sleep.
