Tips for Teenagers to Sleep Right

Teenagers may experience changes in their sleeping habits which can possibly cause circadian rhythm sleep disorder. However, changes in the sleeping habits of teenagers can be normal due to hormonal changes. It is very important for teenagers to get enough and quality sleep every night for them to function properly in school the next day. For teenagers who have difficulties and problems in getting a good night’s sleep, there are actually several different ways that can help teenagers get enough and quality sleep.

Establishing a sleep routine can help teenagers fall asleep easier and at the same time every night. A sleep routine does not only involve what time are you going to sleep at night, but it also involves waking up at the same time every morning. At first, teenagers may find it difficult to sleep early and wake up early in the morning. Eventually, teenagers will get used to their new sleeping routine and can finally get rid of their unhealthy sleeping routine. One effective way on how to start a new sleep routine is by avoiding playing video games, watching television, and surfing the internet when it is near your bedtime. Instead of doing those things, why not try reading a book or take a warm bath? And if you are worrying about your homework, try to schedule doing your homework earlier in the day? NEVER PROCRASTINATE.

Conducive Environment for Sleep

Almost all people find it hard to fall asleep in a cluttered and a non-conducive environment for sleep. Teenagers have the tendency to leave their rooms cluttered and messy, which can play a very big part in preventing them from getting a good night’s sleep. When teenagers start to do some adjustments with their sleep routine, they should also do something to make their rooms’ environment conducive for sleeping. First step in making your room more conducive for sleeping is to clean and remove all the mess. Once your room is clean, you can then try to make your room darker and turn off all devices and gadgets that can disrupt your sleep, such as television, radio, computer, etc. Keeping your room conducive for sleeping will help you get enough and quality sleep, which can help you perform and function better in school the next day.

Stay Away from Caffeinated Beverages

Caffeine is a known stimulant and can cause someone to stay up all night. Caffeinated beverages can be taken during the morning, so that it can’t affect your sleeping routine. If you plan on drinking coffee, energy drinks, sodas, tea, etc., you can do so only before 1 pm. If you still feel that you are having difficulties in falling asleep at night even though you drank caffeinated beverages during the morning, try to totally eliminate caffeinated beverages from your diet.
